The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies is your fastest route to a relevant, employable 21st-century degree. In our program, students and advisors work together to craft an individualized degree that meets your needs, bringing together the work you have already done with exciting courses and learning opportunities drawn from departments across campus. Previously-earned credits can be included in your new major, meaning that no credit is ever ‘wasted.’ Instead, your BIS degree can be built upon what you have already accomplished.
Each student defines a focus area that is interdisciplinary in nature and is supported by courses in two or more disciplines. Some students choose to combine two minors that share interdisciplinary context while others develop a focus area that is more integrative; whichever direction you choose to go, the flexibility of the BIS degree allows you to plan a path to graduation that is both expedient and beneficial to your personal and/or professional goals.
If you’ve stepped away from your studies, and are considering returning, or simply want to find out how our program might help you to wrap up all of the work you have already done at VCU, please reach out below! We are eager to talk with you about we can best serve your goals.
